On the 15th - 17th October I attended the 2025 Jarjums camp. Jarjums camp was a fun and great experience, me and my friends had lots of fun in our tents and doing activities together. So, this is my Jarjums camp recount.
We were all so excited and when we got there, we put all our bags down and walked around the tents to find the best one. When the children from other schools arrived, we sat down under the big tent and went over our rules and activities for the day, Mrs Littleton also taught us that when she rings the bell it means we must return to the big tent.
Next, we got into our tent groups my tent was, me, Ali, Luca, Azaria and a girl Sophia that we met, we went and chose our tent, and they gave us time to set up our tents. After we set up, we had lunch and went for a swim. After our swim we went for a shower, thanks to Aliana's tent organisation we were ready for a shower straight away and got to the showers first. When we got out, we had a few games of Uno while we waited for the other children to return from their showers to have dinner. All showers were finished, and dinner was eaten we were off to bed (well some people had other plans) the first night was one of the craziest. There were people chatting and talking so loud others could not sleep, my tent was talking but not as loud as some of our neighbours, but it was still really fun.
The next morning we were very excited. We had a full day of activities and fun things to do, we filled up on breakfast and did some cultural dancing practice. After our practice we enjoyed morning tea, then got ready for our dance performance. We got into our grass skirts and got our ochre painted on then went to the beach to perform. After our performance we had lunch then a talk with Uncle Dale Ruska and a talk with Uncle Matty Burns. When that was finished, we were all hot and went for a nice refreshing swim in the lagoon. After we were out of the lagoon, we went for a walk down the beach and did running races and played footy. When we got back, we had showers and played some games to win broncos jumpers donated by beyond the Broncos. I didn’t win a game, but my tent won cleanest tent, so we got a jumper for that. We had dinner and went to the tents for bed.
In the morning, we started to pack up and clean then took a break for breakfast. We got everything out of our tents and moved our belongs out of the campsite. When everyone was out of the campsite, we went for a walk to the Deadman's beach sand dune and climbed up it. We whale watched from the top then ran down and walked back. When we got back, we had a game of cricket and some watermelon. Hen announced the winner of the Jarjums t-shirt design, Samuel won the design of the t-shirt, and we all put them on to do a goodbye dance for all the sponsors and team helpers. After that we had a little bit of lunch, and the bus came down the hill to pick up the children.
Everyone enjoyed this camp a lot, and we had lots of fun, we made new friends and bonded with many people from other schools. Jarjums camp was a great experience and many people who attended will remember it for many years.
