Last Wednesday we held an assembly to recognise and commemorate National Reconciliation Week. This year's theme was 'Now More Than Ever' which is a reminder that we need to stand up and defend the rights of First Nations peoples. We should call out racism whenever it is encountered, and actively reinforce the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the continent. Now more than ever, the work continues. In treaty making, in truth-telling, in understanding our history, in education, and tackling racism. We need connection. We need respect. We need action. And we need change. Now more than ever; we need reconciliation.

Students from the 5/6 classes made pledges such as:

Today, tomorrow and every day I commit to respecting our Elders - past, present and future. I will do this by fighting for justice, acknowledging reconciliation, making change and staying connected, being equitable, telling the truth and overall respecting every First Nation Person. By Lillian

I think we need to be kind and understanding to everyone and especially our earth. We can do this by listening and connecting with our land and animals. By Keara

I will continue to learn my history and know more about Country. I think we can all heal by coming together as one.  By Jarrod

Students made a tunnel for the younger children to go through and place a personally decorated hand into sand to mark the occasion.

It was a truly wonderful, moving commemoration.
