On the 29th of July Dunwich State School held our annual NAIDOC celebration here on school grounds. We were joined by our Elders who cooked their yummy Johnny cakes followed by some tea and coffee. For lunch our P & C put on a sausage sizzle and juice stall, we also had some refreshing smoothies, juice and pork rolls from Island Juice. We had a number of stalls and activities including Goompi Give and Grow, QYAC, Paperbark Love, Deadly Choices and Deadly Kindies. Our Year 6 students also put on their own Aboriginal and Islander arts and craft stall for the younger students to enjoy. The day was opened by the Dunwich State School students performing Aboriginal dancing led by Patrick Coolwell, followed by welcome to country and speeches by Lilly H, Dijdari G and Marli H. We finished off our day listening to a cultural talk by Mathew Burns. Thank you to the whole community for coming together for such an important week in our Nations Calendar.
