This week our Elders held a wonderful Smoking Ceremony communally organised by a few diverse organisations and individuals as an offering to start the healing process for staff, students, parents and guardians.
Uncle Raymond Walker lead the ceremony imparting his fabulous knowledge of culture to everyone. Three different types of leaves were used - wild hopbush (ginjingara) which is often used for ceremonies for children, wattle (kabacarre) which is used for relaxing and bloodwood (badna) to remove negative energy.
Parents and community were first followed by the children and staff passing through the healing smoke.
Eva then spoke, sharing with us that the purpose was to "start the healing, respecting, loving, speaking to each other and that we love you all". They wish everyone well and now hope the school will flourish into the future as it had done in the past.
