Dunwich State School is the only school on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). The school caters for students and their families from the three major towns of Point Lookout, Amity Point and Dunwich itself. Each town has its own subculture which influences the diversity of the school culture and learning. Point Lookout is tailored to the tourism industry while Amity Point is fishing with Dunwich being business and indigenous based.
There are three indigenous clans that comprise the people of Quandamooka. They are Nughi of Moorgumpin (Moreton Island), the Nunukul and Gorenpul of Minjerribah.
North Stradbroke Is/Minjerribah is a unique marine and island environment. Its community has a strong cultural heritage. Many local families have a long association with the school, with fifth and sixth generations now enrolled. Today, the school caters for students from Prep to Year 6.

Safe Calm Connected
Safe Calm Connected
At Dunwich State School, we’ve
embarked upon a journey to co-design
a groundbreaking project rooted in
the latest research on brain health and
neuroplasticity. We call it ‘Safe, Calm and
Connected’. It’s a direct response to our
school community’s needs.
The aim is to adopt a neurological
pedagogical approach to address
regulation in children and foster a
safe, calm, and connected learning
environment. By co-designing the
initiative with the school community,
stakeholders are able to play a pivotal
role in shaping the project’s success,
which aligns with the principle of
collaborative and communitydriven education.
