Prep enrolment interviews

Prep enrolment interviews are informal meetings that take place throughout Terms 3 and 4. During these interviews parents / carers will be asked several questions relating to your child and your child will be asked a few questions and encouraged to participate in a few activities. These interviews are a very important way for us to ensure we can best support your child's needs in their transition to school.

Please note:  In Queensland, children must turn 5 years of age by June 30 in the year they enrol in Prep. Prep is a compulsory, full-time program and serves as the first official year of schooling.

To determine when your child can commence their prep year, use the online calculator External link.

'Ready for Prep' program

At Dunwich State School we run a Pre-Prep program called ‘Ready for Prep’ for future Prep students and their families, to support your child with their transition into school.

Families are encouraged to participate in the 'Ready for Prep' program even if they haven't finalised their enrolment for the following year or are still deciding which primary school your child will attend.

> Child & Family Visit Days

The ‘Ready for Prep’ program includes a number of child and family visit days which run from 9:15am to 10:30am and are schedule in the second half of term 3 (August - September).

On these days we will provide children with activities to familiarise themselves with the teachers, classrooms and routines at Dunwich State School. This is a great opportunity for your child to become more familiar with the school environment and feel supported for the start of next year.

The ‘Ready for Prep’ visit days allow students to feel comfortable in the school setting as well as meeting new friends before their first day of school. The program also provides our staff with an opportunity to learn about your child, their interests, how your child learns and provide positive experiences about school.

> Transition Workshops for Parents / Carers

‘Ready for Prep’ also includes Parent / Carer workshops delivered at school, providing practical hints and tricks to support child readiness for school, coping with changes / transitions, growing independence and resilience, and navigating school avoidance. These workshops run in the first half of term 4 (October - November).
